After Yalla Techno sparked heated debate with our post “Is Melodic Techno Dead?”, the electronic community had plenty to say. But one voice stood out — that of Chris Avantgarde, one of the most forward-thinking and genre-defying artists on the scene today

With a discography that includes standout collaborations with Anyma (“Consciousness” and “Eternity” and Atmosphere)
and a recent explosive release with Adam Beyer , Avantgarde isn’t just following trends — he’s setting them. His sound blends emotion, innovation, and power, constantly pushing boundaries across labels like Afterlife and Drumcode.
In response to the genre debate, Chris offered a refreshing and reflective take:
“Any sound comes and goes. It’s been like this forever.”
He questioned the need to constantly label music in a world where genre lines are increasingly blurred:
“I don’t know a single person that only listens to one genre — and most sets today reflect that.”
From an artist’s point of view, he admits being boxed into a genre can be both “frustrating and freeing.” But what truly matters is genuineness — whether staying loyal to one sound or exploring new territory:

“The chasers get left behind. The innovators are already thinking about the next interesting thing.”
Chris also shared his own journey — how “Consciousness” unintentionally became a trend, and how he quickly moved beyond it in search of fresher sounds.
At Yalla Techno, we’re here for exactly these kinds of conversations — ones that challenge the status quo, and explore what’s next, not just what’s now.
So maybe it’s not about whether Melodic Techno is dead — maybe it’s just evolving.
