Egyptian artists’ Spotify royalties grew by 35% in 2025, according to the platform’s latest Loud & Clear report. Electronic music ranked among the fastest-growing genres by royalties, while independent artists and labels generated more than two thirds of the Egyptian total.

Released on October 27, the report highlights a music ecosystem with strong local support and an expanding international audience. Listeners outside Egypt accounted for 85% of the royalties generated by Egyptian artists on Spotify, underlining the economic importance of reaching fans abroad.

For Egypt’s electronic music community, the findings provide a wider industry context: independent releases and international discovery are playing a significant role in the country’s streaming growth.

Egyptian Artists’ Spotify Royalties Keep Growing

The 35% annual increase follows an earlier period of rapid expansion. According to Spotify, royalties generated by Egyptian artists more than quintupled between 2022 and 2024.

The latest figures also show how much overseas listening contributes to that growth. The United States, Germany, the United Kingdom, France and the Netherlands were the five leading international markets for Egyptian music by royalties in 2025.

However, international reach has not weakened the connection with audiences at home. Egyptian artists accounted for more than 86% of the tracks featured on Spotify Egypt’s Daily Top 50 during the year.

Together, these figures show Egyptian music maintaining a strong domestic presence while generating most of its Spotify royalties internationally. The report does not provide an absolute royalty total for Egyptian artists, so the percentage increase does not establish the overall market’s monetary size.

Electronic Music and Independent Artists Gain Ground

For Yalla Techno’s audience, electronic music’s inclusion among the fastest-growing genres is a key finding. Spotify also identified Egyptian hip-hop, Arabic hip-hop and Egyptian shaabi among the genres recording the fastest royalty growth for Egyptian artists in 2025.

The report does not give separate growth rates for those genres or break electronic music down into house, techno and other styles. Even so, its inclusion places electronic music within the broader expansion of Egypt’s streaming economy.

Meanwhile, more than two thirds of Egyptian artists’ Spotify royalties came from independent artists or labels. That share highlights the substantial economic role of the independent sector within the country’s music ecosystem.

Mark Abou Jaoude, Spotify’s Head of Music for MENAT+, said the growth reflects both rising royalties and an evolving industry. He pointed to streaming’s role in helping Egyptian artists build audiences, connect with fans and develop their careers.

For independent electronic artists and their teams, these findings reinforce the relevance of understanding where listeners are connecting with their music. International audience data can help inform release campaigns, collaborations and potential live opportunities.

Egyptian Music Reaches New Listeners

Egyptian artists registered more than 549 million first-time listener discoveries on Spotify in 2025, up 12% from 2024.

That figure measures discovery occasions rather than 549 million unique listeners. It nevertheless demonstrates the scale at which Egyptian artists reached people hearing their music for the first time.

Spotify supports discovery through initiatives including RADAR Arabia, EQUAL Arabia and Fresh Finds Arabia. Its Spotify for Artists platform also gives artists and their teams access to audience location and listening data.

Globally, Spotify reported paying more than $11 billion to the music industry in 2025, bringing its cumulative payments since launch to nearly $70 billion. These figures represent payments to the wider music industry; individual artists’ earnings depend on their rights ownership and agreements with rights holders.

Egypt’s results point to growing demand across borders, with independent artists and electronic music contributing to that momentum. For the local scene, turning first-time discovery into a lasting audience remains an important opportunity.
