The Countdown To Starlight Begins

Egypt is approaching a significant new chapter for its electronic music scene as Starlight Festival prepares to make its debut at the Great Pyramids of Giza on October 9 and 10. The starlight festival is set to capture international attention for its groundbreaking location and ambitious lineup.

Produced by Serbia’s EXIT Festival in partnership with P+US, the electronic music platform of Venture Lifestyle, Starlight is being presented as the first multi-stage, multi-day electronic music festival staged against the Great Pyramids. Opening and closing events for the starlight festival are also planned across Cairo on October 8 and 11, extending the festival beyond the two main nights.

The concept is notable not only because of its location, but because of the scale of the international collaboration behind the starlight festival. EXIT brings more than two decades of experience from one of Europe’s established festival markets, while P+US brings local knowledge and infrastructure from Egypt’s entertainment industry.

With the first edition of Starlight festival now only days away, attention is shifting from the announcement to the experience itself.

A Lineup Built Across Multiple Scenes

The programming for this year’s starlight festival reflects the increasingly broad spectrum of contemporary electronic music.

October 9 brings together Adriatique, Pete Tong, Vintage Culture, WhoMadeWho and Indira Paganotto, alongside artists including Charlie Sparks, BIIA, Paolo Ferrara and others. On October 10, the starlight festival lineup shifts toward a heavier techno and club-focused programme, led by Charlotte de Witte, Michael Bibi and Enrico Sangiuliano.

The festival is also bringing international collectives into the programme. Artcore, led by Indira Paganotto, will make its Egypt debut on the No Sleep Giza Stage on October 9, as part of the diverse artist roster curated for the starlight festival, with a lineup including Charlie Sparks, BIIA, Paolo Ferrara, Valentinø, Reblok and Juno.

That multi-stage approach could be one of Starlight’s defining characteristics. Rather than building the weekend around a single sound, the starlight festival is attempting to represent several sides of the current electronic landscape while giving local artists a place alongside internationally established names.

The result is a format closer to a destination festival than a traditional single-stage concert, putting the starlight festival in a unique category among world music events.

Why Starlight Could Matter Beyond The Weekend

The larger significance of Starlight may ultimately have less to do with any individual DJ and more to do with what the starlight festival demonstrates about Egypt as a destination for electronic music.

The country has hosted major electronic shows at the Pyramids before, but this time, the starlight festival is attempting something different in scale and structure: a recurring, multi-day festival concept combining international artists, multiple stages and a global festival operator within one destination.

That model could create opportunities beyond ticket sales, including tourism, hospitality, local production, artist development and international attention around Egypt’s existing electronic music ecosystem, all stemming from what the starlight festival is pioneering.

It also places Egypt more directly into the conversation around destination festivals in the wider MENA region. Ultimately, the starlight festival could serve as a blueprint for similar events in the future.

The partnership with EXIT is particularly relevant here. The Serbian festival brand has spent years developing an international identity, and this starlight festival represents its first Egypt edition and part of its wider World Tour.

Whether Starlight becomes a recurring fixture will depend on how the first edition performs, how audiences respond and whether the infrastructure can support future editions of the starlight festival.

For now, the countdown to the starlight festival is almost over.

In a few days, some of the world’s biggest electronic artists will play within sight of one of humanity’s oldest monuments, truly marking the start of the starlight festival in Egypt.

The real test begins when the lights come on, the first records drop, and Starlight moves from an ambitious idea into a live reality at this year’s festival.
